For unit or apartment hunters on the Gold Coast, one of the most commonly requested features is an ocean view. But if you have a budget of $1M or less, is it even possible to find one? Gold Coast Buyer’s Agent Matt Koch takes a look at five recent unit sales on the Gold Coast that show it’s possible to still get a unit with ocean views on the Gold Coast for under $1M.
Let’s take a look.
(you can also view this as a video on our instagram reels here).
This apartment on Main Beach Parade at Surfers Paradise sold in the past month for $899,000. It’s a two bed, two bath, 108m2 apartment on the third floor. It’s north east facing and you can see that it does have some pretty decent ocean views but you are looking at it across the esplanade which gets pretty busy.
Also in Surfers Paradise is this three bedroom two bathroom unit on Palm Avenue – this is the only three bedroom unit out of the five, and it’s pretty big unit at 146m2. This one also sold in September and went for a neat $1M. The unit isn’t on the beachfront but it does get some pretty wide ocean views which is good because I would definitely be concerned with this one about the potential for some development activity on the land between the unit and the ocean which could partly block that view out in the future. I suspect it’s how the buyers managed to get this one for only $1M which is a great price for a three bedder.
Next up we’ll head a bit further south to Broadbeach and this two bedroom, two bathroom, 77m2 unit on Old Burleigh Road. This is a more modern unit block but a much smaller unit than the previous two. It does have some pretty amazing views to the south looking over Broadbeach state school and the Broadbeach dog off leash park so you’d feel fairly confident this view won’t be built out. This one also sold in the last few weeks and went for $985k.
Lets head now to Mermaid Beach and this two bedroom, two bathroom unit on Hedges Avenue, otherwise known as Millionaires Row. It’s an older unit in a small block of 19 that’s right across from the beach and had some basic renovations done. The unit is positioned on the side of the building but you do get a nice sliver of ocean views from the side balcony looking towards the park. You would need to put up with any noise from the surf club which the apartment looks directly over. This one sold in June 2024 for $980k.
And finally we’ll head down to Burleigh. This apartment on the Gold Coast Highway sold in August for $900k, it’s 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom and 98m2. Some nice ocean views but the apartment is south facing and I think there’s potential for some of that view to be built out so that would be something to be mindful of.
So, the good news is that it is still possible to get a unit on the Gold Coast with ocean views for under a million dollars. But if you want more than two bedrooms and a guarantee that your view won’t be built out you might need to bump up your budget.
