Our story

Hi. We’re Matt and Kathryn Koch.

We started Hemko Projects + Interiors after the successful renovation and sale of our first ‘flip’ home on the Gold Coast in 2020.

We worked in collaboration with a great design and construction team to deliver the Burleigh Beach Retreat, a Scandinavian inspired coastal oasis in the heart of Burleigh Waters, on time and on budget. With a focus on spaces that are full of light and natural ventilation, we create sustainable homes that people love to live in.

When listed for sale, the Burleigh Beach Retreat was in the top 10 most viewed properties in Australia on realestate.com.au and was sold under auction conditions within a week of being listed for sale. Since selling the Burleigh Beach Retreat we have completed a duplex development in MIami, Kaari in Kiers.

Project management

Managing a residential renovation or development project can be stressful. Poor management often leads to budget and deadline over runs. We can help you project manage your build to help get it and keep it on track – from helping you procure suppliers, to site supervision, and budget management.

Home automation planning and advice

Overwhelmed by your home automation options? We can help you plan and procure what you need within your budget.

Interior design

Do you need help selecting tiles, lights, furniture, flooring and other fixtures? We can work with you to create mood and material boards and personalised shopping lists to bring your dream home to life.

Matt Koch

Project Management

As a certified Project Manager, Matt is the guy who makes the projects happen. Matt keeps our projects on budget, manages our various contractors & consultants, and procures all internal and external fixtures and fittings. He works closely with our builders and trades to manage the day-to-day operations on site, making sure projects finish on time and on budget.

An IT Project Manager at heart, Matt loves nothing more than sourcing and installing the latest and greatest home automation systems.

Matt also leads our property purchasing efforts, developing relationships with local agents, keeping his finger on the pulse of the local market, and securing properties off-market where possible. He is now working towards becoming a buyers agent to assist others with their own property purchasing goals.

When he’s not working on Hemko projects, Matt is an IT Project Manager for a large construction firm. He’s a former tennis pro, learner surfer, and tragic Newcastle Knights fan.

Kathryn Koch

Interior Design & Styling

Kathryn is responsible for making our Hemko projects look and feel good. She works closely with our building designer to create a unique, on-trend style for each home, including the façade, materials, colour palettes and floor plans. She then completes the selection of all interior and exterior fixtures and fittings, and styles the homes for sale.

Kathryn’s style is best described as modern scandi with a pop of colour.

As well as working on Hemko projects, Kath is available for interior design consultation, and has a selection of furniture available for interior styling for property sales on the Gold Coast.

Kath is no stranger to the use of colour in design, having founded The Goodnight Society – a colourful and quirky organic sleepwear brand – in 2013, which she sold in 2018. A former corporate marketer, Kath continues to consult to a range of large and small businesses throughout Australia on their brand building and marketing activities. When she’s not working on Hemko projects, she can be found volunteering for Rotary Youth Exchange (as a former exchange student to South Africa herself!), reading, or planning an overseas adventure.
